On the occasion a spontaneous blog post is uploaded it means that something very significant has happened in music. On this occasion out of my regular Friday schedule, Harry Styles has debuted the music video to accompany ‘Sign of the Times’, his first solo single taken from his self titled upcoming album set to be released this coming Friday. With images of helicopters, Harry suspended thousands of feet high and information scattered throughout social media during the filming of the video at long last it has officially arrived and I am here to ultimately decide did the music video visually appeal as much as it was hyped up to be?Taking place in the United Kingdom in the more northern half of the country up in the highlands of Scotland in the Isle of Skye which provided the quality scenery and surroundings for Styles solo video debut. At first glance Harry is depicted with feet firmly on the ground foraging through mounds of fine grass as he embarks on his ‘Sign of the Times’ journey. Close up shots of the singer himself shown throughout the video heavily in the first verse and throughout almost provided a sense of vulnerability and openness as the camera pans consistently over his facial features, feet and his hands as Harry is effortlessly pulling off the navy long line trench coat, white jumper, and black boots combo which seemed ever so fitting for the blustery weather conditions which the grass and Harry’s shorter curly hair gave away from the get go at the beginning. As the pop-rock inspired ballad continues with the almost chilling instrumentals building the momentum of the music video flowed with the song tremendously. The grand moment which see’s Styles take flight up into the air as the appropriate lyric “Breaking through the atmosphere, things are pretty good from here” are paired along with the visuals of Harry flying graciously above a whole variety of natures finest things such as mountains, waterfalls, woodland and even bravely the sea as he ascends further and further into the sky as the track builds in power more and more which essentially brings the video to a climatic close with the last scenes showing Styles high above ground level amerced in the orange sunset sky. He is certainly looking down on the clouds even when he isn’t in One Direction. A timeless, iconic and classic music video created by Harry styles and his team gives the ultimate monumental and dignified feel that I certainly associated with Harry himself especially at first listen to the track the music video for ‘Sign of the Times’ only enhanced its grandioseness and definitely gave a visual hint of the artistic direction Harry is taking for his solo project and for future music videos which are bound to happen especially with the release of his album being on Friday 12th May.
