Capital Summertime Ball Concert Experince

Like Radio 1 has it’s Big Weekend and KROQ has it’s Weenie Roast, Capital FM also has its Jingle Bell Ball and in this circumstance it’s Summertime Ball. Last weekend witnessed 80,000 music enthusiasts fill Wembley Stadium for the biggest ball of the year hosted by Capital FM here in the UK. Capitals Summertime Ball returned for its seventh year running and with a whopping twenty three big named artists on the line-up it surely wasn’t to be missed. In conjunction with Capitals Jingle Bell Ball which takes place at the o2 Arena around the festive period, being a previous attendee to the ball before it was undoubted that I would return to the Summertime event. With the essentially one day festival type of concert happening just last weekend a concert experience seems fitting.

One of the last remaining acts to be added to the already impressive bill, Bruno Mars opened the ball with a bang. Brining his entourage to the summer stage there couldn’t be any bettie act on the line up suited to introduce the event this year. Energetic, Smooth and Sophisticated, Mars got every person in the stadium on their feet with tunes such as ‘Treasure’, ‘That’s What I Like’ and a rather surprising track of ‘Runaway’ with all these songs creating such a buzz of excitement and exhilaration ready for the remainder of the acts throughout the afternoon and evening.

Similar to the majority of Summertime Balls in previous years many DJ’s are always dispersed throughout the line-up to break up the intensity of all the singing acts. Out of the three predominant disc jockeys who were Martin Jensen, Zedd, Jax Jones and Sigala, Zedd brought the ball to life with his impressive half hour long compilation of songs. Communicating with the crowd fluently throughout his set, Zedd got the entirety of the London based stadium jumping, dancing, singing and practically everything in-between with his pyrotechnics, visuals and music of course with track ‘Stay the Night’ being a wholesome favourite amongst the audience.

A notable act halfway throughout the day, an artist going by the name of Shawn Mendes that is. Being one of the acts largely anticipated by many individuals in that venue, one didn’t quite realise how breathtaking Shawn is as a person and performer. ‘here’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back, ‘Ruin’ and a rendition of Ed Sheerans ‘Castle On The Hill’ remixed with Shawn’s ‘Treat You Better’ Mendes despite still only a teenager brought maturity and passion to what he does which is truly admirable.

Former One Direction members Niall Horan and with his first ever debut live performance also Liam Payne were, onset each other on the list. Horan brought his folky pop track ‘Slow Hands’ and his more country pop version of ‘This Town’ alive with a sea of flashlights filling the stadium during the latter of the two songs. Contrary to Niall’s genre of songs Payne stripped it down with those serious choreography moved with his first solo song ‘Strip That Down’ which both Niall and Liam despite being alone of stage absolutely executed their songs exemplary.

Regular ballers Jade, Perrie, Jesy and Leigh-Anne collectively renowned as Little Mix brought the ball to a close this time around with their mixed bag setlist of newer releases such as ‘Power’ and nostalgic classics to both the crowd and the girls especially with ‘Wings’ and a huge crowd pleaser ‘Shout Out to my Ex’ the very last track during their performance.

If any of you people reading this post have been to any of Capital FM’s music events in the past or plan on going in the foreseeable future leave a comment letting me know. Considering I have been twice now to the Ball I would like to be alerted if anyone else has been too.
