A sparingly minimalistic song in the production department gets the opening spot on the track with the indelible beats that survive the whole 3 minuet number which left a lot to be desired upon immediate listen. However later introducing a more common instrumentation in the form of the piano in the chorus which these two elements combined together help to create an effortlessly effective melody.

Rexha and Tomlinson’s vocals are a complementary match made in musical paradise. With Louis’ voice more widely known from his previous work with One Direction and how it melded with his fellow bandmates, With a female vocalist this time around it was the first opportunity we have to hear how it would sound with Bebe’s voice and appropriately corresponding with the topics penned about in the lyrics. When the two vocals meet in the second verse a balanced and pleasant duet of harmonies is definitely one of the songs stronger points.

More expressed forms of explicit language was heard in the lyrics touching heavily on themes regarding nostalgia, self doubt and fighting make for a largely relatable track. ‘I always thought I’d be with someone else, I thought I would own the way I felt’ demonstrate a feeling of helplessness of giving into familiarity and loosing control of emotions are the prominent matters of conversation appropriately living up to the title ‘Back to You’.

A simplistic song that contains old school, authentic qualities in both the rustic vocals of Louis Tomlinson and Bebe Rexha and the mellow, clean cut beats and chords of Digital Farm animals, this triangle of current and contemporary artists put all their musical talent in one basket in order to create the likeable smooth song that is ‘Back To You’.
